Application

Prior to painting, the surfaces of the components to be protected must be cleaned thoroughly. They must be free of rust and oxide layers. Prior to the application the CONDURON 160 should be stirred thoroughly and applied using a flat brush with soft bristles.

In general one coating is enough to provide excellent protection against carburising but in regard of the process reliability it is recommended to apply a second layer.

The first coating should be applied in a pretty thin uniform layer acting as a primer. It doesn’t do any harm, if the steel surface slightly shines through. Not earlier than after complete drying of the first coating, the second one can be applied. Again it should be thin and uniform but now completely covering the steel surface without any through-shining. After the second coating is thoroughly dry, too -not earlier- the coated parts can be put into the furnace.
After carburising and subsequent quenching, residues of CONDURON 160 can be removed by shotblasting or steelbrushing. They are not soluble in water or solvents.

During use, with the can open, CONDURON 160 has a tendency to thicken due to evaporation of the liquid vehicle in the paint. Normal consistency can be restored by adding small amounts of "Special Thinner for CONDURSAL 0118. Please note that overthinning would impair the effectiveness of the paint.

Cleaning of Equipment

As mentioned above, CONDURON 160 cannot be resolved or washed off after drying. So immediately after use, CONDURON 160 cans should be tightly resealed and the brushes cleaned with water. If painting is interrupted for any length of time, the brushes should be set in water to prevent drying of the bristles.

Storage

CONDURON 160 tins shall be stored in a dry cool place. Prevent from freezing.

CONDURSAL Z0095 Instructions For Use:
Condursal Z0095 provides excellent protection for steel components against oxidation during heat treatment up to temperatures of 1600° F maximum. Condursal Z0095 is easy to apply, residues can be easily removed by washing in hot water.

Surfaces of the work pieces to be protected must be free of oil, grease and dirt, which can be achieved by alkaline washing or degreasing with chlorinated solvents.

Prior to using Condursal Z0095, it must be thoroughly mixed. The paint can then be applied with a brush or by immersion. Flat brushes with soft bristles are best suited for brush application.

The paint must be applied in a continuous coat of even thickness of .008" to .012".

Normally one coat is sufficient for effective protection.

For optimum protection, it is necessary that the coating be completely dry before placing parts into the furnace. Drying time will vary depending upon temperature and atmospheric humidity. Normal drying time is one to three hours.

If the paint becomes thickened in the course of time due to evaporation, the addition of Condursal Thinner will restore the normal viscosity. The paint should be thinned only to such an extent that it can again be coated like semi-fluid oil paint; an excessive thinning would impair the protective effect of Condursal Z0095.

Removal of Residues:
After heat treatment, the residues of Condursal Z0095 can easily be removed by washing in hot water.

Cleaning of brushes and other equipment:
For cleaning brushes, it is recommended that Trichlorethylene or Condursal Thinner be used, but NEVER water.

Storage:
The can must be tightly sealed after each application, and prevented from freezing.
